Why does my mattress topper slide?

Help, my topper keeps moving. But why does this happen? There are a few possible reasons. The most common are:

  • No grip layer. Toppers are often made from smooth materials like latex, memory foam or synthetics. That makes them slippery. Especially if they don’t have a grip layer. Luckily, the Cloudpillo Topper Core does — and it also has strong corner straps to hold it in place.
  • Topper too light. If your topper is too lightweight, it won’t stay put. A heavier, thicker topper might be the solution.
  • Movement while sleeping. We all move during the night — a little at a time. This causes the topper to shift, even if you don’t notice right away. How much it moves depends on how much you toss and turn.
  • Wrong size. If your topper doesn’t match your mattress exactly, there’ll be extra room for it to move around. Make sure they’re the same size.

1. Topper with grip layer
Choose a topper that has a grip layer underneath. That way, it stays in place no matter how much you move during the night. A good example is the Cloudpillo Topper Core. It also has strong corner straps to secure it to any mattress of the same size. That means your topper won’t budge again.

2. Grip mat
Don’t want to buy a new topper? Try a grip mat. It’s a thin polyester mat you place under your topper. That’s it. No more sliding. And don’t worry — it’s thin enough that you won’t feel it while sleeping.

3. Fitted sheet around both mattress and topper
Another option is a fitted sheet that covers both your mattress and topper. It keeps the layers together. This tip only works if your mattress is not built into a boxspring.

4. Sew in corner straps
Feeling crafty? You can sew elastic straps onto your topper corners. They’ll help keep it in place. Make sure they’re tight and well secured. Not up for it? All Cloudpillo toppers already come with durable corner straps.

5. Velcro
This one’s for the DIY fans. Use stick-on Velcro strips to fasten your topper to your mattress. Just make sure you attach both sides of the Velcro at the same height so they line up properly.

6. A heavier topper
Thin toppers slide more easily than thick, heavy ones. If your topper feels too light, consider switching to a heavier model. Extra benefit: a thicker topper usually offers better support and comfort. Try something like the Cloudpillo Topper Original, which is 7 centimetres thick.

The topper that always stays in place

You might know Cloudpillo for our pillows — but have you tried our toppers? They’re supportive, ergonomic and super breathable. Some are even cooling. And yes, they always stay in place. That’s thanks to their weight, strong corner straps and smart grip layer. Find out which one suits you best:

Cloudpillo Topper Original

This 7cm thick topper offers total comfort and ergonomic support. It features our revolutionary Cool Touch technology to keep you cool — and the corner straps keep it firmly in place.

Cloudpillo Topper Core

This 5cm thick topper features a grip layer so it stays put. It adapts to your sleeping position without sagging and offers perfect pressure relief — while staying highly breathable.

Cloudpillo Split Topper

Perfect for adjustable double beds, thanks to its clever split at the top. At 7cm thick, it’s relatively heavy — and those corner straps keep it stable on any mattress.

What’s the benefit of a mattress topper?

A topper adds extra comfort and support. A good one reduces pressure points and adapts to your shape — like sleeping on a cloud. It also helps protect your mattress from wear, dirt and moisture. That means your mattress lasts longer, which is better for the environment and your budget. After a few years, you’ll only need to replace the topper instead of the whole mattress.
