Which duvet should I choose? Follow this 5 step guide

Too warm. Too cold. One leg in. One leg out. We all know the eternal struggle of finding the perfect bed temperature. You too? And looking for a new duvet? We will guide you step by step in choosing the right one for both cold and warm nights.

Step 1 | Choose your warmth level

Do you get warm easily or are you always cold? There’s a temperature regulating duvet for every sleeper. Each duvet has its own warmth class:

  • Warmth class 1: very warm | for people who are always cold. Thick and highly insulating, perfect for winter nights.
  • Warmth class 2: warm | the most common class in the Netherlands. Comfortable for colder nights but slightly less warm than class 1.
  • Warmth class 3: medium warm | great for spring or autumn. Warm but not too much, ideal if you heat up easily at night.
  • Warmth class 4: light |the lightest and least warm duvet. Ideal for summer or if you often sleep hot.

Step 2 | Summer duvet, winter duvet or both?

In winter you want to snuggle under something thick. In summer you may only need a light layer. That’s why an all-season duvet is perfect: it combines two layers for year round comfort, a light summer layer and a warmer layer for chilly nights.

How it works:

  • Winter: Combine both layers for a super warm winter duvet. The Cloudpillo all-season duvet features handy snap buttons for this.
  • Spring/autumn: Use just the thicker layer, outlined in grey on the Cloudpillo version.
  • Summer: Use the thinnest layer, outlined in blue. Lightweight and breathable, perfect for warm nights.

What if my partner wants a different duvet?

No worries! With the revolutionary Cloudpillo Partner Duvet you’ll never argue over the covers again. Each half can be adjusted individually, so both of you sleep comfortably.

Step 3 | Choose your filling

Duvets come in many materials. Which suits you best? Here’s a quick overview:

  • Synthetic: Hypoallergenic, lightweight yet warm. Great for year-round use. The Cloudpillo Duvet is made from 100 percent polyester (microfiber and hollow fiber).
  • Down: Luxuriously soft and breathable. Keeps you warm without overheating. The Cloudpillo Down and Feather Duvet is filled with 15 percent duck down and 85 percent duck feathers.
  • Wool: Excellent insulation but can get too warm. Heavier and harder to maintain.
  • Cotton or bamboo: Absorbent and breathable, but less warm. These natural materials may wear out faster with frequent washing.

Step 4 | Consider your sleeping position

Back sleepers often do well with a medium warm duvet. Side sleepers may prefer something thicker for upper body warmth. Stomach sleepers generally prefer a light duvet to avoid overheating.

Step 5 | Pick the right size

Make sure your duvet is bigger than your bed. Here are the guidelines:

  • Single bed (90x200 cm): choose 140x200 or 140x220 cm
  • Small double (120x200 or 140x200 cm): choose 200x200 or 200x220 cm
  • Double bed (160x200 or 180x200 cm): choose 240x200 or 240x220 cm
  • King size bed (200x200 or 200x220 cm): choose 260x220 cm
